Introduction
Taekwondo begins with Kukkiwon. Kukkiwon is World Taekwondo Headquarters. All certification/accreditation comes from Kukkiwon. Kukkiwon is the highest standard of Taekwondo. Kukkiwon is also the innovator in research, education and promotion of Taekwondo across the world. It is imperative that any Taekwondo school/program adheres to The Standard of Kukkiwon.
Taekwondo is an Olympic medaling event and is governed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Standard for Olympic Taekwondo is World Taekwondo (WT), formerly World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). WT sets the Standard for competition, internationally for global events. Following the same pipeline is United States of America Taekwondo (USATKD). USATKD is the only direct path to international competition and the Olympics. These are by far The Highest Standards in Taekwondo and where we begin. We are currently exploring AAU as their standard for sparring develops excellent competitors. Other competitions will be considered.

History
Taekwondo is a dynamic martial art that derived from ancient fighting styles. Taekwondo itself is a relatively new martial art, as it was formed in the 1950’s. In development, elements of Taekwondo were drawn from Karate, Taekkyon, Tangsoodo as well as hundreds of years of Korean fighting heritage. As Taekwondo progressed, instructors broke away from the source and created their own version of Taekwondo. The most well-known separation is with Grandmaster General Choi who broke off from the main structure of Taekwondo to begin the International Taekwondo Federation. Others formed their own interpretations and schools of thought known as the Kwans. There are 10 Kwans and they are: Chung Do Kwan, Moo Duk Kwan, Jido Kwan, Song Moo Kwan, Chang Moo Kwan, Kang Duk Won, Jung Do Kwan, Oh Do Kwan, Han Moo Kwan and Kwan li Kwan. Each Kwan holds its sovereignty today while honoring and respecting the leadership of Kukkiwon. Kukkiwon is World Taekwondo Headquarters.
Conclusion
Having a high Standard in the martial arts is drastically important to the health and well being of the practitioner. It is our purpose and goal to not only have the best training for ourselves, but also for our students and to give them the best coaching. This can be achieved through Kukkiwon, USATKD, AAU, and team work. Kukkiwon is Taekwondo and anything outside of this is a counterfeit. To claim Taekwondo without standard, governance, education, development, competition and achievement is absurd. Watch out for the imitations, the frauds. Those that over compensate and use “filler”. Kukkiwon is Taekwondo, and Taekwondo is Kukkiwon. If your program is not Kukkiwon and offering you a real chance, or taking you to legitimate competitions, you are being lied to. It’s not about opinions, there are plenty of opinions across the vast internet. The history and legitimacy of competition in Taekwondo stands with Kukkiwon, WT, and USATKD.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?
Other than being one of the highest ranked and accredited programs in the region, it comes down to character. We put forth the extra effort to care for our students and for standing up for what's right. "Excellent TKD school. The instructor actually cares about the students. My son was being bullied at school and he not only emailed the principle but he also stopped by the school to help resolve the problem in person. Previously, my son would have found himself in trouble for fighting the kid back, but under Reilly's guidance he remained controlled and out of trouble. I appreciate this school and would recommend it to anyone." ~ Antoine Maurice Holman. |
